The Howlin’ MoonDoggies were formed by Shakir Pichler in Perth WA 1991. The 1st of many line up’s were: Wayne Francis on Double bass, Shakir on Stand up drums, Dale on Vocals. 2nd line-up Wayne and Shakir then 2 new recruits Shawn (R.I.P) on guitar and new lead singer Marco Agostino who was a ‘singing Elvis Pizza boy!’ I kid you not… He used to busk outside the Pizza restaurant in Northbridge Perth and draw huge crowds with his amazing voice. Having grown up in a musical atmosphere singing in his parents restaurant like a mariachi, it was time to take his voice to the world. Many gigs later, and yet another line up change, a new guitarist Eddy Blondel who brought some more punk edge to the band who were now jamming without Shakir who had moved to Sydney. By 1999 they all moved to NSW to join up with him and re-form a new improved version of the band. With Shakir’s influences of Punk, Rock, Ska and Psychobilly, they were pushed to lift their game and go even wilder, breaking away from the cliché Rockabilly pigeon hole. As Drummer and Manager, Shakir had organised a mobile recording studio to be set up in the doggies hq in Bondi. After 24 hours, a lot of wild turkey and candles burned to the base. Their 1st album “Doggie Style” was born. What was a fairly low production seemed to beg redemption due to the raw energy captured that night on all 16 songs! Various tracks were released world wide on Psychobilly compilations – “Seven Deadly Sins” on “It Came From Hell” CD out on Germany’s “Crazy Love Records” “Alright All Night” on “Friday Night Rumble” CD - USA Label Run Wild records. “Pistol fast Cadillac” & “The Witch” on “Revel without a cause” on Japans “Revel Yell Records” They also Shot TWO Music Videos – “Pistol Fast Cadillac” and “Pieces” which were shown many times on Foxtel Channel [V] as well as music country and ABC’s RAGE. They then recorded a 2nd and much more REAL (higher Budget) album at Skylab Studios in Surry Hills, consisting of 11 original songs, and using guest session musicians Lisa (Christine Anu’s main Backing Vocalist), The brass section from “Urban Ska Project” on the 2 Ska tracks and Sydney Symphony head Cellist Greg Elmaloglou on Cello for the track “Ordinary World” – a punk anthem with an intentional loop reminiscent of The Clash’s ‘London Calling’. Due to a strange set of events, Shakir left the band and the bass player stole the master tapes from the studio and it has taken a long time to get them returned and now (with a new line up) Shakir on Drums, and Marco again on vocals, with 2 new recruits Rory Donellan on a MUCH rockier guitar and Paul Rahme on Slapping wild double bass. New album OUT NOW!!! An Unusual combination of musical styles? Maybe, but the boys just want to go out leaving an AMAZING release in their wake for people to remember and enjoy for years to come.
Finally our 3rd and very special album "The Last Leg" out on Japans awesome 'Revel Yell Records'. This album features 7 rare unreleased tracks from 1992, 9 tracks from Doggie Style and 3 from Chasin Pussy as well as 2 multimedia music videos! Enjoy!
